If you are having trouble scanning your Gigago eSIM QR code, here are some possible reasons and solutions to help you resolve the issue:
1. Your Phone Is Not Compatible with eSIM or Is Locked
- Check Compatibility: Ensure your phone supports eSIM. You can review our eSIM-compatible device list to confirm.
- Phone Must Be Unlocked: Only carrier-unlocked phones can work with eSIMs, especially when traveling abroad. If your phone is not unlocked, contact your carrier for assistance.
- No eSIM Support?: If your phone is not eSIM-compatible, don’t worry! You can still use physical SIMs as an alternative.
2. You Are Scanning the QR Code Through the Wrong Method
Do Not Use the Camera App: You cannot scan the eSIM QR code by simply opening your phone’s camera.
Instead, you need to go to your phone’s Settings and take the steps below:
- For iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan > Scan QR Code.
- For Android: Settings > Connections > SIM Card Manager > Add Mobile Plan > Scan QR Code.
3. You Are Not Connected to the Internet
Internet Connection Required: Installing and activating an eSIM requires a stable Wi-Fi or mobile internet connection. Without it, the QR code cannot be scanned.
Pro Tips:
- You are recommended to install your eSIM at home, one day before your departure, when you have access to a stable internet connection.
- Avoid Early Data Roaming Activation: To preserve your eSIM’s validity, activate data roaming only after you arrive at your destination.
4. Try Manual Installation
If scanning the QR code doesn’t work, you can set up your eSIM manually:
- Check Your Email: Gigago provides an activation code with your eSIM profile via email after your purchase.
- Enter Details Manually:
- During setup, select the Enter Details Manually option and input the activation code provided in the email.
5. Your QR Code Is Expired or Already Scanned
- QR Code Expiry: An eSIM QR code has a validity period. Once expired, it cannot be scanned.
- One-Time Use: QR codes can only be scanned once. If you try to scan the same QR code again, you may see an error like “Data Plan Cannot Be Added”.
- Check for Existing eSIM Installation: It’s possible the eSIM was added successfully without your notice. To confirm:
- For iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Check Cellular Plans.
- For Android: Settings > SIM Card Manager > Check Installed Plans.
